While laser tattoo removal isn’t perfect, in most cases, a lasered tattoo should not result in hypopigmentation. (Hypopigmentation is defined as whitening of the skin on the treated area.)
Ways that you can avoid hypopigmentation are;
Keeping your lasered area protected from the sun AT ALL TIMES!
Finding a qualified laser tattoo removal clinic. The clinic you choose should be able to show you several pictures of their work. If the after pictures are looking like the treated area is starting to lose pigment on the skin or if it looks like it is scarring, this is not the clinic that you should chose.
Never cover your freshly lasered tattoo with any type of ointment. Heat is used to shatter the ink particles that are in the skin to then be carried away by the lymphatic system. Covering your freshly lasered tattoo will only trap in the heat and cause thermal damage to the skin.
ICE, ICE, ICE, your freshly lasered tattoo for AT LEAST 24 hours after your laser treatment.
If hypopigmentation starts to appear, consider having your laser treatments spaced further apart. We recommend waiting 8 to 12 weeks in between treatments, OR LONGER!
