Did You Know?

The word laser is an acronym for; "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation".  Also, before the laser was developed, there was the "maser". This stood for microwave amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. This was based on Albert Einstein's principle of stimulated emission masers which were used in atomic clocks. Atomic clocks help us control things like the wave frequency of television broadcasts, and in global navigation satellite systems such as GPS. Pretty cool how one thing leads to another over time!
